Just watched The Yellow Submarine with Milo (my four.5 yr old). He's into music and 'rockstar' suddenly. Had the desired impact.

Never noticed the Micky Mouse ears on the Blue Meanies before now. Wondering if it's purposeful. prob. so. YS is the antithesis of standard Disney (at the time) animation. Been obsessed with Disney for quite a few months now... Reading a great book (Vinyl Leaves). Don't know why I didn't think of Umberto Ecco's Travels in Hyperreality. If Eco can be delighted with Disney World, I can stop trying to justify my interest.

Re-reading some Ecco has made me realize how far I've become from my elitist aspirations. At one time I would have nodded in solemn understanding when Ecco tries to explain something that he says "should be obvious to Europeans and Cultivated Americans". Now I read that and I have the overwhelming urge to grab a boob hat and sit on the lawn in a tank top with my feet in a wading pool. Maybe I no longer feel so threatened by the possibility of being lower middle class and I can relish it with a sort of post modern sneer that I would have been to paranoid that someone might recognize for the real thing not too long ago. The phrase "hits too close to home" is appropriate here.

I am so bored that I am talking to myself.

Bored and lazy is a bad combination...

Adding hungry into the mix...

Popcorn sounds good. Too lazy to make it with a pan, plus I'm looking for a way to make it in the microwave without any oil... I tried with a plastic bowl once but that turned out nasty.
Last time I used the brown paper lunch sack method I did it at work. The bag caught fire and filled the whole office with scorched popcorn smoke. Very embarrassing.

I've never really felt like shelling out for the plastic microwave popcorn gadgets I've seen online... after the burnt plastic popcorn, I've sworn off the polycarbonates in conjunction with the microwave...

This time I 'm trying something different. I'll let you know.

Works! Well, sort of.

Put the popcorn kernels in a ceramic bowl and covered with an unfolded paper napkin covering it and tucked underneath. Worked well only I used too much popcorn and it escaped. When I opened the door I had a popcorn avalanche. Left more of a mess than I thought it would too.

Real drawback is that I like burnt popcorn. I may be the only one in the world, but there you have it. I usually burn it on purpose. Tried this time and It didn't work out. Instead of a nice even char, I got a molten middle and set the smoke alarms off.

All in all, a good fat free method for popcorn.

I bet you're fascinated.
